Acupuncture can help you to experience a smooth and comfortable pregnancy and birth.

During pregnancy we provide safe and effective treatment for:

Morning sickness

Morning sickness is said to occur in approximately half of all pregnancies usually between the 6th and 16th weeks, being its most intense at 8 to 12 weeks.  Clients report fast effective relief from this condition after acupuncture treatment.

Breech presentation (turning the baby)

This is achieved through a technique known as moxibustion where heat is applied to a specific point on the foot.  Treatment is demonstrated and continued at home over a number of days.  This simple method has been shown in many studies as well as in my own clinical experience to be highly effective.

Labour induction

As you approach your due date, acupuncture can be very helpful to relax your mind and body and has been shown to increase blood flow to the cervix.

Relaxation is key to progressing labour. Clients report our acupuncture induction sessions put them in a strong and relaxed state of mind.

Studies have shown acupuncture to be effective in reducing the time between the expected due date and actual time of delivery.

Post natal treatment

Acupuncture can form an important part of recovery after giving birth.  More than 1 in 10 women report experiencing post natal depression and fatigue.  Acupuncture is able to help rebuild strength and rebalance the body and mind.

"Just wanted to say thank you for the acupuncture! Baby arrived safely a few days later and the labour was only 1 hour! I'm sure the acupuncture helped!"

IVF - Supporting Implantation with Acupuncture

A study in 2002 by Wolfgang Paulus found that successful implantation rates could be increased by up to 60% when acupuncture was performed either side of embryo transfer.

What does treatment involve?

We use a specific set of acupuncture points on the day (or day before) embryo transfer.  We then use another set of specifically targeted points within 48 hours of the embryo transfer taking place.  This completes the Paulus Protocal.

The goal of the treatment is to improve blood flow to the uterus and to calm the mind and body.  Both of these factors are very important when the embryo is implanting.
