Acupuncture is very useful in optimising health for fertility.
The treatment has a number of beneficial effects including:
- reducing stress
- aiding the body in balancing hormones
- bringing better blood flow to the areas vital for pregnancy.
We see the body through the lens of Chinese medicine which can give us a different perspective than the standard medical approach.
We look to harmonise the four stages of the menstrual cycle, these being pre menstrual, post menstrual/pre ovulation, ovulation itself and then the luteal phase after ovulation has taken place.
IVF - Supporting Implantation with Acupuncture
A study in 2002 by Wolfgang Paulus found that successful implantation rates could be increased by up to 60% when acupuncture was performed either side of embryo transfer.
What does treatment involve?
We use a specific set of acupuncture points on the day (or day before) embryo transfer. We then use another set of specifically targeted points within 48 hours of the embryo transfer taking place. This completes the Paulus Protocal.
The goal of the treatment is to improve blood flow to the uterus and to calm the mind and body. Both of these factors are very important when the embryo is implanting.
